About the Event

Learn to sew your own clothing @ Wild Learning with Dressmaker and Teaching Artist Suzanne Schroder

You will learn: 

  • how to use your sewing machine
  • sewing techniques for professional results
  • how to read and follow a pattern
  • how to cut fabric accuratly
  • how to construct and finish pieces that fit your body beautifull!

Week one: 

Welcome and sewing basics - make a pin cushion that attaches to your machine with a strap - so helpful for dressmaking! Suzanne will explain about suitable patterns and fabrics and give you  information about what to bring for your clothes making projects.

Week two - five: 

Bring your chosen pattern ( you can buy one from a shop, use a second hand one from an op shop, download a free pattern from the internet or use one of Suzannes basic templates) and your chosen fabric (you can buy new fabric from a shop or recycle suitable material like bed linen or a curtain)

Over the four weeks you will plan, cut out, sew and finish your own hand made clothes. This class is suitable for beginners, sewers with some experience as well as nervous pattern dodgers!  You will work at your own pace with loads of support and expert guidance - in a friendly, calm atmosphere!

You will need to bring:

  • Your sewing machine with foot pedal and power cord - (if you do not own a machine, get in touch as we have a few machines avaikable for borrowing during class. )
  • A bobbin and thread
  • A pair of fabric scissors 
  • A basic sewing kit (pins, a measuring tape etc) 
  • Your pattern and fabric (for week two)

What is it - classes to learn how to sew clothing using a sewing machine

Time and dates -  Thursday evenings, 7:30pm on the 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st October and 7th November

Suitable for- Learners with very basic sewing skills, through to quilters and sewers wanting to make the leap across to sewing clothing.  Suitable for adults. Teenagers are also welcome but need to be brought into the class and collected from the classroom by a responsible adult. 

Cost -  $35 to pay as you go each week -or- pay upfront to save with a five class pass for $150
